Generally conducted in May each year by our property management company and include:
House/window/garage door(s)/front door – rotten wood, peeling paint, missing trim wrap, excessive mildew, broken windows
Shutters – missing, broken, faded paint
Siding – missing, broken, excessive mildew
Outdoor lighting – missing, broken
Mailboxes – rusted, peeling paint, excessively leaning posts
Fences/fence gates – broken, missing boards
Yards/landscaping – lawns with excessive bare spots and/or weeds, plant beds with excessive weeds, overgrown vegetation which impedes clear view of the street when backing out of driveway
Trash can storage which can be seen from the street and/or sides of home
Mail boxes must be clear of obstructions so the postal delivery vehicle can access your mailbox
Continued obstructions can result in stoppage of delivery service
Before conducting home improvements be sure to review Our ARB Page as some improvements may require ARB approval
Holiday decorations can be placed one month before the holiday and must be removed within one month after the holiday
Patriot will pick up Christmas Trees during the first two weeks of January. The trees must be free of ornaments, lights and protective plastic bags
Our roads are maintained by VDOT, however as an HOA we also have guidelines outlined in our covenants with regard to the use of roads in our community. This includes restrictions on commercial vehicle parking anywhere within Great Oak.
Residents are advised that parking on the street during winter months may cause difficulty with snow removal efforts
If you see any issues with the condition of our roads or sidewalks please complete a work request through the VDOT website: VDOT can help with culvert cleaning, pothole patching, water drainage, guard rail replacement, bridge work, signs, traffic lights, animal, tree or trash removal. Submit a work request or call 800-367-ROAD (7623) (TTY users, call 711) for prompt assistance

Trash & Recycling pickup is conducted by Patriot Disposal Services, be sure your trash bins are turned with the handle toward your home and the bins are clear from vehicles and mail boxes. Please note that plastic bags may NOT be placed in recycling containers and they will only pick up trash that is inside a bin. They will NOT pick up any trash items outside of trash bins. You can request additional toters from Patriot for a fee if necessary. For more on recycling see Patriot Recycling.
Yard Waste collection is conducted by Patriot Disposal Services. This collection will be scheduled from March through December annually. For more information see Great Oak Yard Waste Collection.
Special Item Pick Up can be scheduled online or by contacting Patriot for special pick up (703) 257-7100. Special Pickup additional fees may apply. Note: Patriot will conduct bulk pick up of up to 5 items and each item may be a separate charge.
